the album was written, produced, and distributed in garys hometown baltimore, between 1986 and 1987. after a break from performing while getting belated college degrees, gary returned to performing in the early 21st century, back to the singer/songwriter style of his past. gary feels that the generic art ensemble/original soundtrack days gave him an ability to open up his writing. his recent albums feature guitar, but many songs do have keyboards added to give them a fuller, less folky sound.

one more time we choose two little known gems for re-release on 45 rpm single. another single by the same group is pretty in demand by funk 45 collectors. these two sides are not that much known but they certainly deserve the same attention. while funky you is pretty good, uptempo funk, the b-side is the real beauty of this record. love come down is a fine example of chicago soul which has not been re-released yet. hopefully many people appreciate the work behind this release, from both the original musicians as well as those who are responsible for this high quality re-issue.

this monster 1976 lp from nassau s munnings brothers aka beginning of the end is a stone cold classic. fact. well deserving of a place in any record collection! this, their second lp (with 1971s infamous funky nassau preceding it) features the brothers original, fresh sound a mixture of tough funk rhythms, bahamian soul and flourishes of jazz and rock is an extremely well executed and produced body of work. not surprising considering the band were one of the bahamas foremost musical outfits. the brothers musical backgrounds could not have been any more fitting, they cut their teeth playing regularly alongside the likes of nat king cole and count basie at their fathers well known nightclub the cat and the fiddle, what we get on this lp however is not jazz, but lean, melodic soul music! original copies of this seminal lp can change hands for 100 s on the used/second hand market and is a solid constant at the tops of the wants lists of record aficionados. the lp has been illegally reissued numerous times without any care or attention being taken to retain or respect the quality of the amazing music contained within. not so on this occasion, this is a fully legit, sanctioned reissue done in conjunction and with the assistance of miami s tk disco empire. now is the perfect time to revisit the deep, soulful sounds of the munnings brothers endeavours, a truly sublime collection of songs, drenched in sunshine, masterfully produced and performed with pure vitality. a truly classic album. sounding as fresh as it did almost 40 years ago. jump in the water!

passion for jazz and soul music. reekee, a remarkable young and talented artist from modena (italy) not only plays the keys as an extention of his mind but his true and pure sound makes you feel warm and connected from first notes. a mixture of broken beats with soulful melodies & analog drummin and reminds early mr. fingers tracks. you often get a nu-jazz feeling and can clearly hear the jazz influences between the funky house beats. because it s so difficult to describe the feeling you get listening to his music, you should hear it yourse.

what’s on help008? mainly music from the arhus-boy dj sports. it’s sort of a debut, but sports has released a bunch of tracks on regelbau and help over the past years, solo + with his groups maizena, sportscentral and lester. this young sensible producer initiates the release with the breaky hidden spheres that has a cool piano. next another leftwing original from sports. this one, with it’s flute, breakbeat, confident synth chords and beautiful minor nature is a favourite of mr. sports parents. this one is our favorite, his parents. if we haven’t lost you so far, the flipside contains a timeman dance version with more danceability, hook and playing time than the original version of the bridge that was released on the tape sportscentral. last but not least you get an alternative version of that get-in-touch-with-your-inner-passion/synthesizer-melody-rythmical-ambient-track mindless turns, that also originally appeared on the aforementioned tape. we hope you ll like our new record, that, if on repeat, might provide you hours and hours of by-yourself enjoyment.

remembering the old days is not always the wrong choice. david jach focused on his roots and with back to house and he reflects where his own sound is coming from. oldschool vibes meet a new way of club aesthetics. a homage to friends of classic but modern house productions with punch. his friends okain and agent are with him on his journey and provide their interpretation of oldschool house music. both give the original an individual twist and the three productions together build a harmonic picture back to house .

from the realms of buenos aires’ legendary and undocumented nightlife comes a new ep by djs pareja - who have been generously introducing us to their nocturnal dancefloor visions since the very beginning of cómeme, shaping not only the label’s sound and message but also influencing heavily the modern takes on techno in latin america. here’s their ep “alto” literally meaning “high”, and this is where it’s supposed to take you and surely will.

opening things up, the sinister title track is a dense, winding affair built around staggered tribal patters and powered along with a brooding reese bassline. he/at’s “set openers” have become something he is known for and this is definitely one of his most dramatic. after that madness, “it’s impossible to describe the smell of a wet dog” strips things right down with subtly chaotic-timed rhythms and synth-work. kind of minimal...but not.
on the flip side, “a drama out of a crisis” is a straight-up new-meets-old techno stomper with early beltram-esq beats and modulated melodies, before the ep closes out with the rawness, “the man who made husbands jealous” is a tough acidic kind of work out with an infectious hook we think you’re going to like.

new sounds from an old friend... i d been running franklin de costa s records for years, but after i played for his party in berlin a few years back we kept in touch. he runs a club night called mother s finest which puts on artists like tessela, truss, untold, dj fett burger and more, as well as releasing singles under his own name on labels like killekill and curle, and, as mudkid, beautiful tracks on greta cottage workshop. the three trax built for this ep on not so much are, like anything fresh and futuristic, hard to pin down in words. sssooo is a kind of detuned chattering b-boy cut that slides sideways between dimensions while always driving forward. mldk is another one for any dancers with moves.

while producing the viscera trilogy, fango has tried to understand something about himself. in order to do this, he had to enter into his own body, just like dante entered hell, studying and analysing himself from the inside, diving through organs, guts and grey matter. did it work? yes and no, depending how you look at it. for sure, it helped him in the creation of 3 devastating and introspective eps, but a lot of questions are still unsolved. viscera part 3 is the last leg of a journey that disrupted your 2016 and marks the beginning of a new absurd phase for fango, but this is another story. for the time being we leave you with amnios, metacarpo and metulla. this is viscera 3/3.

hard previously unreleased dubplate cuts on side a, i roy vocal & dub on the same rhythm on the b-side! legendary channel 1 dubplate music. this version of -free black man- by earth & stone was scrapped for release in favor of the softer version that eventually appeared on their -kool roots- album, but this heavy cut achieved infamous dubplate status thru play on uk sound systems. in the case of this tune, it seems only dubwise cuts made the rounds, as we ve not heard (or heard of) a full vocal. and like many tunes not pegged for release from back in the day, mixdown masters were never kept, so only dubplates remain to haunt us. here you get two hard dubwise cuts, remastered from dubplate (punters beware!), raw as ever. on the flip side, i roy s vocal, the only released cut on this rhythm, as well as the only released dub, as appeared on the -musical dub attack.-

gazel is one of those tunes that went viral from the very first minute. djs like baris k, ata or acid arab are still playin this tune since it was made in 2013. mehmet aslan and dario rohrbach finally managed to create with gazel this kind of tune that blows away every dance floor. the impact was not only on the dance floor. several threads on social media appeared with videos, desperately looking for the track id. but there were also the ones, that had to rip it of a set of baris k, so they can play it. the b-side goes definetly deeper when alma negra is able to make a tune you want to open your set. on this gem they combine northafrican folklore sounds with classic deephouse drumpatterns and trippy synths. fleeting wax has managed to put together some of the most promising artists of the hour, having dario rohrbach on board who is part of the alma negra collective and will hit this year with promising releases for example on yoruba. this release is going to find his way in many dj-bags and wont leave it so fast

jake one’s discography reads like a who’s who list of some of the greatest and most successful artists in the history of hip hop. that’s what makes him truly unique. blurring the lines between the underground and overground. providing sonic backdrops for such incredible emcees as de la soul, scarface, freeway, mf doom, evidence, casual, elzhi, brother ali, and rakim among others, but polishing that same formula and providing records for the likes of drake, rick ross, t.i., 50 cent, snoop dogg, j cole, wale, dom kennedy, and royce 5’9”, jake one is one of the exceptions that has worked equally with both of these sides of the industry. exceptionally. “prayer hands”, a collection of instrumentals created from gospel sources, includes some of those recordings amongst others that all remind you that jake one has pretty much become the go-to producer for any major artist that wants some real hip hop shit on their album. and understandably so.

many of us wondered what happened to legendary chicago artist, producer and dj spencer kincy aka gemini since the early 2000s. a cursed journey into insanity or a deliberate choice to turn the page of music for another life ? speculations have been abound...where did he go ? with these 3 previously unreleased tracks one should think spencer is back on the scene...but not quite. just lost tapes found in the attic, some unlikely email communications and you ve got the lost ep, his final testament under the gemini moniker. what you have here is another brilliant example of spencer s musicality, raw or metallic sounds melted into live and program drums delivering unique dancefloor energy (4321, jungle life) or deeper, and simpler structures with chicago vibes from another age (monday to wednesday). defiantly fresh !

lars von licht’s -from arrows“ is exactly one of this sort: an almost 15min live jam, both simple and sophisticated. a track for special moments and for special people, perfect for reanimating supérieur. one of the frst persons whom i gave this tune last year s summer was lee burridge, who played it straight away at burning man. admittedly, this release took some time, but we wanted to fnd the right moment and the right remixer. we considered many options but came back to one of our own people in the end. dodi palese who released his connaisseur debut earlier this year, felt like the right person to challenge this track and we were right. he has transformed it into a tribalistic high energy bomb, with an unexpected, big synth theme, blowing you away. yes, we are more than happy about this release and it was well worth the wait.

after his great record on innervisions, the guys from exit strategy convinced nuiton to get this killer release for their label. like baudelaire once said: „you need three things to create art: currentness, history and last but not least coincidence“.

escorting sarah hit the ground running with ‘elephant in my box’, its low slung cavernous kick drum making a serious statement of intent before the the track’s grimy synth pushes forth to serve up some deliciously sleazy warehouse vibes. ‘pov’ ups the dirt considerably, metallic shards of phunk permeate, their edges rubbed raw with distortion whilst ‘spank’ offers up a sleeker, but no less deadly, slab of techno weaponry.

this is an official reissue of what am i gonna do for fun by the band pitch (1982 - new york city). this release also includes a fantastic remix or rework by tolouse low trax (toresch, salon des amateurs, düsseldorf). a few words from stuart shape, the producer: feels like it was done by another person. i remember getting the serge synthetiser to stay in tune was always a problem. we were fascinated with the new sampling that were just coming out, and kind of got carried away on the vocals. not sure what i was thinking about with the lyrics, guess maybe trying to figure out what i was supposed to be doing when i wasnt working or playing music unfortunately no other finished tracks from that era have survived. they recorded a lot, but finished and saved very little.

why making a techno record in 2016? in the vast stream of new releases and the everlasting quest of new musical boundaries, blint002 tries to focus on the essentials of pattern-based clubmusic. both tracks started as late night studio jams, using only a drummaschine, a synth and some pedals. while 92 avenue ended up being a straightfoward technotrack, including a massive breakdown for everybody still awake and dancing, you have i dont have is incorporating some boomy hiphop aesthetic without loosing its connection to the dancefloor. both tracks are linked by their unresting synthlines, straying around, trapped in a noisey room full of smoke and distortion. bouncing back to the inital question, the answer with this record seems pretty clear: techno is still nothing but pure dark fun.

with noblesse oblige you find yourself among the aristocracy of the mind and body… it is a gathering of artists with a different heartbeat and mindset… fitting the gooiland elektro spirit as they operate far away from contemporary music standards… not being interested nor moved by trends and hypes… instead they share the mission to produce uncompromising sounds for the real freaks with music both for the dancefloor and the headphone… in this case this means sweaty ebm, dark techno and industrial acid… but that are just some name tags… it is all about the experience…

spooky-j spearheads blip discs darkest, most outlandish and hands-on dispatch to date. the a side is most definitely a heads down floor mover with meditative sounds akin to early dubstep, whilst the flip finishes in complete style with 808 infused dnb - two genres rarely seen together on a record, but held together superbly by spooky-j’s unbelievable live percussion work. nerds and geeks rejoice!

male productions comes back after the first release -secret doctrine-, with the second lp : -clouds- ! this release comes as collector s album edition of 475 copies only and it contains the songs -clouds- and -interface- released in 1991 plus four unreleased songs recorded in the same year but performed only live during house parties back in the days. this lp still features stefano di carlo, leo young and mauro tannino.

deep88 is back! here is a 7 track lp, music without any pretence, no silly fx or crazy compression/production tricks to take away from the music. just that 1988/1993 vibe with a slight balearic twist but some how avoiding to sound like a poor copy or dated. this last statement couldnt be any truer on this release. the vibe is carried through the whole ep with each consequent track then offering something a little bit different, some showing his balearic side and other tracks having a more house feel.

illusory house and techno from new york native image man, following up a release on crucial newcomer label sunal/perabob with another four-track 12” of windy, paradoxical tracks built from samples and drum machine. “glance” shifts further into a weirded out but druggily decadent realm where he’s found looping the reflections of disco, soul and ancient pop samples into his own spaced and primitive euphorias, starting out with the slowmo downbeat of “more” before the more apprehensive rhythms of “else” end up filtering out into a pool of a reverberant samples that echoes out the second half. from the image man himself: “we trust in the sound we take for granted—the music wouldn t lead us astray, would it? emotions can lead us astray, the wanting to feel, the wishing of forever lasting, the pleading for change, the expectation of ecstasy. just a quick glance in the mirror.”

dutch producer casper von banniseht sidles over to bristol stable boogie cafe to present a three-track 12- of impeccable dusty house grooves imbued with that detroit-esque feeling that oozes out of a moodymann or theo parrish record. -bossa- revels in choppy broken beats and plenty of choice samples in a most loose and soulful of concoctions, while -lazy- cools down to a simmer with subtle disco licks making the most immersive of deep house jams. -lone- meanwhile plies a more chipper trade with its hooky chord stabs, but still the vibe remains smooth and laid back, just how the boogie cafe crew seem to like it.

this ep represents a further manifestation of sound-expression over sound-design. each track has it¡¯s own characteristics. it¡¯s a symbiotic ep which combines vintage analogue gear with live digital effects, everything is done in a moment - manipulating things that you can¡¯t calculate but feel. this live combination is really important that the listener will subconsciously get a psychedelic and emotional bound to electronic music - resembling genres like krautrock. do what you want, it¡¯s the only law - it¡¯s a sentence very dear to the whole les points collective and with this boundery it¡¯s no surprise that audino & barbir have collaboration featured. dilettantes on the rise!

given the underground acclaim heaped on marie davidson s previous albums - ultra-stylish affairs that blend elements of minimal wave, dark italo-disco, off-kilter electro and moody ambient - it s little surprise to see her popping up on minimal wave offshoot cititrax. the album s nine tracks are largely sharp, rough and fuzzy, with sparse-but-dense drum machines rhythms underpinning bouncy, delay-laden synth lines, thrusting electronics and davidson s sleazy, spoken word vocals. it s an attractive combination that guarantees thrills throughout, from the almost claustrophobic throb of -denial-, to the mutant electrofunk bounce of -good vibes-.
